The venerable Facebook exec and his wife, Dr. Priscilla Chan, announced they were having their second child. Zuckerberg and Chan are already parents to Max, 1.
“After our difficult experience having Max, we weren't sure what to expect or whether we'd be able to have another child,” Zuckerberg penned on his Facebook page. “When Priscilla and I first found out she was pregnant again, our first hope was that the child would be healthy. My next hope was that it would be a girl. I cannot think of a greater gift than having a sister and I'm so happy Max and our new child will have each other.”
Zuckerberg, 32, said he grew up with three sisters and said they showed him “how to compete and still laugh together afterwards.” Chan also grew up with sisters, who Zuckerberg wrote have gone on into careers in medicine and business.
“We are all better people because of the the strong women in our lives -- sisters, mothers and friends,” the Facebook CEO wrote. “We can't wait to welcome our new little one and do our best to raise another strong woman.”
Following the birth of Max in December 2015, Zuckerberg and Chan announced the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative to give away 99% of the couple’s wealth.
Since the philanthropic efforts were unveiled, the couple have made investments in a number of areas, including education and scientific research
